You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.” Who wrote those words in an old song? If you know the answer, you might feel right at home at the Sie FilmCenter’s weekly Monday Music & Movie Trivia night, which returned to the theater in early April after a hiatus brought on by disinterest. Or so it seemed. “If you take something away, people miss it,” says Sie house director Ryan Oestreich. “People were coming to me and saying, ‘I want to play again!’ He ran it by his partner-in-trivia, Twist & Shout manager Patrick Brown, and they agreed it was worth a try. But first they asked people a lot of questions about what might make the experience better the second time around. They learned that the questions were often too hard before — “sometimes, we’d have a whole round on Italian neorealism, and some people would score zero on that,” Oestreich says — and that players wanted more and better prizes, and that they like rounds with visual or audio components. But some things will stay the same, like drink specials and booby prizes: “Those are always weird, and they’re always different,” Oestreich adds. “Sometimes people really like them, and sometimes they end up in the garbage.” Either way, the fun is back: Try your hand at Monday Music & Movie Trivia tonight — and every Monday — at 7:30 p.m. in the Henderson Lounge at the Sie FilmCenter, 2510 East Colfax Avenue. Admission is free. Tonight’s theme is likely to be focused on the Cannes Film Festival; visit denverfilm.org/filmcenter for more information.
